Roberta took her first photographs when she received a Kodak Brownie camera for her tenth birthday. She set up studio shots of her brother and sister, using props and working the morning light to her advantage. Looking back on these photos, she realizes there was something special going on between the camera, her eye and her world that made magic.
In the 1970's, Roberta did event photography, such as weddings and bar mitzvahs, as well as head-shots for actors. Equipment, client and weather disasters, plus working weekends while teaching full time in the week got the best of her and she quit doing photography for hire. Moving from her bags of Canon SLRs with many lenses into using a digital camera was relatively easy. She now uses Nikon Coolpix series cameras; 990, 5400 and 8700, hoping to move up to using digital SLRs. Her photography has been used commercially and she continues to use it as part of her digital and fine artwork.
Her greatest aim in photography is capturing a place, a person, an object in an unusual, unique moment that translates and moves the viewer to keep looking in wonder.
