Roberta Lannes-Sealey Fine Art

Roberta Lannes Sealey began her long fine and commercial art career when she sold a watercolor to her father for twenty-five cents and he framed it for his office. She was four years old. A very visual child, Roberta spent hours observing, drawing and painting, creating collages, making jewelry and fashioning sculptures from found objects. In elementary school, her abilities often caught the eye of the teacher and Roberta became the student who was called upon to make class posters and create bulletin board designs.

With the encouragement of parents and teachers, Roberta decided she wanted to be an artist by the time she was twelve years old. As she continued in art, her love of writing sometimes took over and the two creative parts of her fought for time. In college, she sold paintings at college shows and through her father who hung many of her paintings in his office and would sell them to whoever showed interest. She felt she'd become a professional when her father's client, Vincent Price, purchased a portrait she did in college.

Starting her commercial art business Live Ideas Inside in 1975, Roberta did work for Continental Airlines, Monet Jewelry, and numerous other companies. Her art shows in galleries along La Brea, La Cienega and in Hollywood, California, brought her some recognition for her unique style and talent. Her last show in Hancock Park of her ethereal and dynamic glazed aniline dye images brought her a commission to design fabric. Her work is owned by various collectors here and abroad.

Since 1994, Roberta's commercial work is comprised primarily of her digital art which makes use of her painted and drawn work, and she continues to do fine art for pleasure. She has been an art teacher with the William S Hart Union High School District since 1972. With her instruction and encouragement, she has had numerous students go on to successful careers in art, as designers, art directors, scene painters, fine artists, and two art teachers!
